If you take the time to go back through the forum, carb. adjustment is a hot topic. I live in hot humid Houston where the weather does not change much. I have a 1 year old bike which has experienced very little performance variation from week to week. My backfiring has also reduced over time also.
As you read various threads, you will see that if you have a good mechanic, keep him. Seems like a 50/50 deal with people's experiences (maybe not that bad really).
My take is that carb. adjustment is magic.
A new shop has set up in town so I think I'm going to let him go over my bike. I think in the Spring I'll take the plunge for a Supertrapp muffler. Check out the threads about Supertrapp, it sounds like the way to go for better performance. Best sound may be another matter..
